1200 Calorie Low Carb Diabetic Diet

Most mornings I sit down at MyFitnessPal and plug in the food I will eat throughout the day until the calories and macros come out to match my goals.

Day Diabetes Meal Plan: 1,200 Calories

This week my goal was to plan for a high protein, low carb 1200 calorie daily goal. The low-fat bit is natural because I prefer low-fat foods.

A low-calorie diet has been shown to lead to weight loss, despite the macro breakdown. However, for those 1200 calories of high protein, low carb, low fat, the totals are: 1151 calories / 153g protein, 86g carbs, 16g fat. If you’re counting macros, it’s close: 55% protein, 30% carbs, and 15% fat

When I create calorie-targeted meal plans, I plan my meals so that calories are under rather than over. I follow the calorie plan for several reasons.

First, it’s difficult to get accurate measurements of the calories in the foods you eat. Different tools, different reporting methods, and different products vary in calorie range.

But the biggest reason the plan is slightly less than 1,200 calories is because there are a lot of things we eat that often go untracked. Bites, snacks, sauces, vegetables, vitamins, gum, and even sugar-free foods do contain calories.

So at the end of the day, you’ll probably be closer to 1,200 calories, even if you think you’re eating less.

IMPORTANT: Products will vary by nutritional information. The nutrient numbers for calories, carbs, and protein I’m listing are taken from the MyFitnessPal report, which you can see here.

While it’s important to have a balanced diet (which I talk about a lot in my Choose MyPlate articles like this one), protein is often the hardest micronutrient to get into your diet. (But if you need help, here is my list of favorite high protein foods)

If fat loss is your goal, research has shown that protein is important. With a higher protein diet, I noticed that:

Fats, even though my diet has been low fat for a very long time, are also important for weight loss. Dietary fats have been shown to have benefits such as

So there is no need to remove them. Although this 1200 calorie high protein plan is low in fat, they still exist!

This week, after planning a 1200 calorie day, I decided to take some photos! So this is what a 1200 calorie day looked like for me. I like to eat 3 meals a day with one dessert, so this is a picture of what I ate for the day:

After I ate the meals I planned, I went through each day and adjusted the fruits and vegetables slightly to vary the meals but keep the calories and macros constant.

Even though I like variety in my diet, I don’t like getting foods that are different for every meal. I will only change the meal plan weekly, not daily. It’s much cheaper that way!

As with any successful weight loss diet, meal prep can help you stick to it! (check out my high protein meal prep post here).

This preparation was actually super simple. That was all the food for 1200 calories a day. This is how I prepared:

I didn’t include spices, sauces or anything like that. I ate things like fat free sour cream and mustard on some meals, but you did!

If you have already done all the weight loss exercises, but the result is still the same, then the problem is most likely in the portion size. Try doing more research on the calories your body needs as additional information for the meal planner calorie charts. However, there is research that although each person has their own needs and activities, there is an average daily consumption. Based on the calories needed, different amounts of calories should be put into one meal. You must have 300 to 40 calories for breakfast every day. Then you must have lunch and dinner

There is also other research that shows that every adult in the world would need an average of 2 thousand calories a day. This research is then supported by other findings that adult women need 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day and adult men need 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. If you want to make it to 2k calories, you have to include all unprocessed foods. These are any vegetables, any fruit, whole grains such as brown rice, oats or quinoa, as well as healthy fats such as fish, seafood or eggs.
