The Dental Hygiene Diploma Program at Vancouver Island University is a Council on Canada Dental Accreditation (CDAC) program. The program provides education in the application of preventive and curative methods of oral disease management and oral health promotion. The concepts of health education, professional work, critical thinking, life-long learning, and community service are strongly encouraged in the program’s curriculum. Re-entry is subject to seat availability; we will not leave a seat for a returning student. 1. Course Failure: A student who fails/fails a program course, cannot continue to the next semester and will be required to withdraw from the program. The student will complete a Remedial Education Program of how they have/will ensure that the ability/fund has knowledge, skills, and practice; any known gaps; specific strategies to close the gaps; and a specific timer that must be completed before re-entering. At the discretion of the Program Director and/or Program Advisor, the Remedial Education Program may include a requirement for the student to complete: A Guided Learning Course that focuses on the integration of program knowledge, skills, and practice with decision making and critical thinking. (The level/expectation will be consistent with what would be expected of the student at the level the student is returning to).
