Dental hygienists provide patient education and individual therapeutic services to help patients achieve their oral health goals. Our Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene degree program is offered only on the College campus.

In March 2021, the Perkins Health Sciences Center received a $12 million renovation project that renovated the current 7,100-square-foot Dental Hygiene Program, originally built in 1958. To date, one of two phases of construction has been completed. After the first phase was completed, the clinic now has 24 state-of-the-art dental hygiene operators, teaching stations, sterilization rooms, dressing rooms and administrative offices. The second phase is estimated to end in March 2023, and will include dental hygiene and nursing classrooms, a dental materials laboratory, a nursing simulation and faculty offices.

The Dental Hygiene Program accepts 24 students each year. As a student, you will build strong friendships and learn to work well as a team. Our students enjoy this connection with each other and with their patients. Our location at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains provides students with an unparalleled outdoor experience.

The college has a cooperative agreement with the University of Wyoming (UW). This unique partnership gives you the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the UW while simultaneously earning an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene from the College. The Bachelor of Science option offers greater career opportunities, and can be completed during the program or at a later date. Many of our students can walk on graduation for both degrees in dental hygiene. Some students qualify for a third degree upon graduation, AS in Health Sciences.

Many graduates join private dental practices, employed by dentists who provide dental hygiene care to patients. Many dental hygienists make lifelong careers in this type of occupation while others pursue research or educational opportunities.

Applicants for the dental hygiene program must be accepted to NWCCD and submit official transcripts (including High School or HSEC) to the Records office. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the dental hygiene program; the application for the dental hygiene program is a separate process.

How To Get Into Dental Hygiene Program

Students applying to the dental hygiene program must complete all prerequisite courses listed on the following pages, by the end of the spring semester they are applying to the program (Fall 2022 to spring deadline Feb 2023). A maximum of two prerequisite courses may be in progress in the spring semester the student is using.

Dental Hygiene Diploma Program

Prerequisite courses must be completed with a “C” or better and applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 to apply for admission. Admission selection is based on cumulative GPA for non-science prerequisite courses and cumulative GPA for science prerequisite courses. All prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the SPRING semester in which the student applies. No SUMMER course grades are accepted for the summer following student applications!

All applications, transcripts and forms must be completed by February 15th to be considered for Fall Semester admission to the dental hygiene program. All prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the spring semester to which the student applies – we do not wait for SUMMER course grades!

Step 2. Submit official transcripts from your high school and all colleges you have attended to the College by the application deadline of February 15th. Official transcripts can be requested and sent electronically through the National Student Clearinghouse at https://studentclearinghouse.org.

Step 4. Submit the observation form or observation waiver form (found in the Information Packet) to the dental hygiene program by mail, fax or email.

Easiest Dental Schools To Get Into 2023

After February 15, the dental hygiene admissions committee meets to review applications. Top tier applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. These interviews are conducted via Skype or other similar technology between February 15 and March 15. At the end of March, applicants are notified of their status.

Demand is high for Dental Hygienists across states and regions. Ongoing research linking oral health to general health will continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. predicts that the Dental Hygiene field will experience 20% job growth, adding more than 40,900 jobs from 2016-2026.

Georgia State To Offer Online Degree Completion Program For Registered Dental Hygienists

The College believes in the students being worked on by the Dental Hygiene program. Of the six full-time faculty members, four are graduates of the College’s program. Of the eight clinical adjunct instructors, seven of them earned their qualifications at the College.

Many dental hygienists work in clinical practice, including general family practice, pediatric practice and periodontal offices. Other dental hygienists work at Public Dental Health Clinics, Indian Health Service (IHS) Clinics and VA Dental Clinics while others pursue careers in education, research, law and public advocacy. Dental Hygiene At Yorkville College

Do you realize the value of a healthy smile and want to play an important role in the delivery of oral health care?

As a Dental Hygienist, you are well equipped to provide excellent oral health education and patient care in a clinical practice environment.

Applications are evaluated based on published entry requirements. When the applicant provides evidence of meeting the requirements, an offer of admission may be issued, provided space is available in the program. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the available places—selection will be based on the final grade of the most senior level available in the required course at the time of placement. Midterm grades are not used for ranking purposes. Other additional tests or evaluations may be required.

Specific deadlines for the following requirements: Infectious Disease Surveillance, First Aid/CPR and Criminal Record Check (as outlined below) will be included in the documentation posted to MyNC under “My Documents”. Some program requirements may take several weeks to complete. All documentation must be submitted and cleared by the specified deadline otherwise you risk losing your acceptance into the program.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they have a Microsoft Windows 10-based desktop or laptop system that meets or exceeds the following general personal computer technology requirements:

Niagara College will not be able to provide support for systems that differ from the above specifications. Any software provided may not function properly. Academic software for your course (supported under the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system) will be available for download and remote use. Access will also be provided to remote high performance computer labs if software downloads are not possible.

Technology requirements indicate no support for Chromebooks or Apple products. Can I still take my program if I have a Macbook or Chromebook?

For most programs, the recommendation is to have an MS Windows 10 computer (as outlined in the “Computer/Technology Requirements” section of this page) for an optimal experience and to facilitate downloading academic software. Reliability of remote connections to computers and college software cannot be guaranteed for Macbook and Chromebook users.

Good News For Dental Hygiene Program

Has a version that works with Macbooks and Chromebooks, and most internet-based apps will work as well. However, some program-specific software is designed to run on Windows 10, and a successful download of these applications cannot be guaranteed. Our Learning Management System (LMS) at Niagara College is Blackboard, and while students can access Blackboard through an internet browser, for some assignments and tests there is a layer of security that uses a controlled browser. Protected browsers will not work on Macbooks or Chromebooks.
