My first step was to look at my diet. I know I’m a carb addict and I need to deal with that. In the year I tried the keto diet in 2017 and had a lot of success, but then I got pregnant again. After the birth of my ninth child, I was still struggling to reach my ideal weight – so I decided to try keto again, but this time with a new mindset. I told myself that I could still eat what I wanted and go back to “normal” eating at any time. For some reason, that change made a big difference. Keto really worked for me.

I also started hearing more about fasting and reading more research about its benefits. I started fasting for 16 hours and gave myself an 8 hour window to eat. Now, I fast for 20 hours with a 4 hour window to eat. I have so much more energy and clarity when I eat this way. I really find myself when I eat.

And the neurologist I worked with believed that my case was caused by obesity.

I was looking at pictures of myself, and I knew I didn’t want to live that life. I was unhappy and still deal with depression and anxiety. I knew I had to make a change not only for myself, but for my children and my soon-to-be husband. I knew I wasn’t living my best life. I started my health journey on 3rd December 2018.

When I first started getting healthy, I bought a weight loss plan I saw on Instagram. Although it didn’t help, I learned what to look for when shopping for food. I also learned that restrictive diets are not for me.

In the year I started intermittent fasting in January 2019. I saw results and improvement in my eating habits and energy levels, and decided it was something that would benefit me long term.

When I first started intermittent fasting, I stuck to the 16:8 program (my eating window is eight hours and I fast for 16 hours). Now that I’ve progressed through my journey, I only fast on weekdays, and have more fun on weekends. The meals I eat are usually healthy versions of my favorite foods, and I make sure to use portion control when I decide to reach for that slice of pizza.

When I first started my weight loss journey, I got into cardio like walking on inclines or the elliptical. But the more I progressed, the more I liked to push myself with strength training.

A typical day at the gym usually starts with a 10 minute treadmill warm-up, then I lift weights for 30 to 45 minutes and finish with a good 20 to 30 minute cardio session.
