I am back with another special meal plan for you. A high-fiber, dairy-free, mostly plant-based ketogenic diet meal plan. Let’s jump right in.

The ketogenic, or keto, diet is all the rage right now. Trending beyond trending. Let’s break it down.

Week Two Keto (low Carb) 7 Day Meal Plan And Progress

Often referred to as the “keto” diet, the ketogenic dietary protocol is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate, moderate-protein diet. 50-70% of your daily calories come from fat. The ketogenic diet is not a new trend, in fact, it has been used as a therapeutic diet for epilepsy and epilepsy since the 1920s.

Despite what you may read online, the keto diet is not a heavy cream and steak diet. In fact, when using this protocol clinically in my nutrition practice, I have found it to be most successful when dairy is also avoided.

Nutritionally, when performing a ketogenic diet, the goal is to shift your metabolism from relying on carbohydrates and insulin for energy metabolism to relying on fat and ketones by stimulating a process called beta-oxidation. The goal is to increase the number of ketones in the circulation.

Relying on fat stores (ketones for metabolism) is a backup survival mechanism. Humans who were historically able to fast longer passed their genes on.

First, I believe you should only execute a ketogenic diet under the supervision of a nutritionist or doctor who is very familiar with the protocol.

Some excellent research exists on the therapeutic use of the ketogenic diet for seizure disorders. However, I think there is some promising research on the horizon using keto for metabolic conditions like PCOS, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and some types of cancer.

The ketogenic diet is not for everyone. In my opinion, if you fall into any of the categories below, this might not be right for you:

In the early stages of the ketogenic diet, you may experience some unpleasant symptoms called “The Keto Flu.” My golden rule is to really listen to your body, and if you find yourself struggling to do normal daily tasks, this is not a good protocol for you.

Long-term use of a ketogenic diet may adversely affect gut health by altering the diversity of beneficial bacteria found in the gut.

Scroll down to read through the meal plan! My ideal keto protocol includes a good balance of vegetables, high-quality fats like coconut oil, avocados, fatty fish, nuts, and seeds.

Carbohydrate reduction to reach nutritional ketosis varies from person to person. If you’re under the care of a practitioner, they can help you find the right balance of carbs, or “net carbs” (total carbs minus dietary fiber), that’s right for you.

In short, I have found benefit in using the keto diet short-term. I’m not a fan of the long-term keto diet. Metabolic endotoxemia, an increase in lipopolysaccharides (LPS), an endotoxin derived from gram-negative bacteria, and in general, I do not support any dietary protocol based on elimination, i.e. concerned with removing an entire food group.

You know I love to start my day with a nutrient dense smoothie. This smoothie is the ultimate keto treat. It’s so rich and creamy with a balance of earthy matcha and vanilla.

1 avocado + 2 eggs. Cut the avocado in half and scoop out a bit of the flesh from the avocado to make room for the eggs (save the avocado for your smoothie!). Crack an egg into each half and bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. So easy! I like to sprinkle everything except the bagel seasoning on top of the eggs.

A great option on the ketogenic diet are veggie curries made with low-fat coconut milk and low-carb vegetables. This Thai Red Vegetable Curry is a very easy meal in my house.

Advantages Of A Low Carb Diet

Crispy roasted asparagus and delicate white sole with Dijon lemon butter sauce. Really, it’s all about the sauce. This 30-minute dinner will be a favorite with your new family. I promise!

This recipe is simple, colorful, delicious, and filling! Remove the casing from 2 links of organic chicken sausage, then sauté in 2 tbsp olive oil with 1 chopped onion and 2 cloves of garlic for a few minutes. Add a large handful of broccoli florets and 2 cups of chopped purple cabbage, sprinkle generously with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and cook until the vegetables are tender. If it seems dry, add some water or chicken stock.

If you have never had roasted radishes you are in for a treat! Make this delicious snack by roasting radishes in avocado oil or olive oil, salt and pepper for 20-25 minutes in a 400 oven. Once well roasted, allow to cool slightly, then toss with avocado, freshly chopped parsley and sesame seeds. Seriously, this is one of my favorite snacks!

Types Of Keto Diets Explained: Standard, Cyclical & Targeted

Most Energy Bite recipes contain some form of sweetener or dates, not this one! Coconut is naturally sweet and tangy lemon pairs perfectly with a hint of warming turmeric for a real treat.

Boil some eggs thoroughly, then add apple cider vinegar and a pinch of sea salt (Maldon is my favorite).

Macadamia nuts are a key ingredient in the ketogenic diet because they are very low in carbohydrates and good for fat.

Yes, I had to. You know my love for olives! Any type of olive will work here, and enjoy a small bowl for an afternoon snack.
