DANBURY, Connecticut, January 22, 2018 — Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (Connecticut Children’s) have formed a pediatric alliance to bring Connecticut Children’s leading features and highly specialized pediatric healthcare services to families in western Connecticut. Connecticut Children’s pediatric hospital specialists and physician assistants (PAs) now provide inpatient care for children at Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital. Neonatologists will begin caring for babies in every hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) this summer. This alliance will improve quality outcomes and provide greater access to subspecialty pediatric care for families in the communities WCHN serves.

WCHN now brings an unprecedented level of specialized pediatrics and neonatology care to community hospitals in alignment with Connecticut Children’s, the only hospital in Connecticut dedicated to the care of children. Through the alliance, children and their families will have 24/7 access to specialized and subspecialty pediatric services that are already available. Even more pediatric consultations will be provided at Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital emergency departments (AS) and best-in-class pediatric emergency care for young patients.

Two physician leaders and three WCHN providers from Connecticut Children’s took on new roles to lead local efforts at each hospital. This includes a Connecticut Children’s board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physician who will advise emergency departments at Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, and Norwalk Hospital. WCHN will adopt Connecticut Children’s standardized best practices to advance continuity of care. Family-centered care, in which the entire care team gathers at the bedside with the patient’s family, will also be introduced.

Pediatric patients will remain Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital patients. They will have easy access to the Connecticut Children main campus in Hartford if needed.
