As of July 2018, there are 249 state-insured hospitals and VA hospital facilities in Pennsylvania. Of these facilities, 148 are nonprofit, 86 are for-profit or “investor-owned,” and 15 are public hospitals owned by the federal government, state government, or, in one case, the City of Philadelphia.
